Description: Geiko Ladies enjoying Sake, Kyoto, Japan, Summer, c1880. Geiko is the Kyoto name for Geisha. They are seated on one of the tea house roofs or verandas on the Komo River in Kyoto. The Kamo seperates Gion and the other geiko districts from the city proper by two bridges. They are off duty and the maiko on the rail has a Uchiwas with the insignia of the hanamachi they belong to.
